It was a kind of feeling that he could never quite explain to Olif, or anyone else for that matter. It was as if there were invisible strings all around that only he could see. Between Bartol and Olif, between the thorn walls, and even...Suddenly the pupils of his eyes began to glow a soft blue, and he could see further into the blackness. When he focused his energy, he could sense things... vibrations in the wind... a slow moving shadow. A heartbeat. Subtle and distant but moving closer.Olif knelt down, pressing against his shoulder and shoved his torch out in the direction Mao was facing. |Wanna... let me in on the scoop kiddo?| He whispered with curiosity, as his gaze danced between Mao, and whatever he appeared to be looking at. |It's alright.| He said calmly. His eyes still glowing as he slowly felt for the book at his side. Bartol sniffed around circling the both of them, then paused. He lifted his head and watched Mao as he stepped forward, to the edge of the thorn wall. The dried, leafless bushes collected eerily in the shadows between the trees, and the small glowing light of the torch provided little clarity. He wondered if he was over-reacting. Was it just his imagination? The last thing he wanted to do was get Olif worked up over nothing. Or worse, if he started worrying, he was sure to have about five lectures ready to drone on about. He decided to let it slide. He looked back and shrugged over his shoulder at a very confused Olif, and Bartol who laid as low to the ground as he could get, observing, and ready to bolt at any moment. Suddenly, something tore Mao from where he stood and flung him into the darkness. A streak of flowing black fur vanished into the dark, in place of where the Moonkin had just stood.Bartol, ran in circles, barking furiously. Olif panicked. |Mao!?| he yelled, as he flung his pack to the ground, and darted into the trees.
